Housing Law CLE
Friday, November 21st
9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Mashburn Construction Company
1820 Sumter Street
Columbia, SC 29201
This day-long seminar will focus on topics common to a housing law practice, but will also delve into more specialized areas of law that you may encounter in your work. The program is designed to provide both seasoned practitioners as well as those new to housing law with the tools necessary to provide the best possible outcome for your client.
The 2014 Housing Law Training will start with a review of fair housing laws and what a practitioner needs to look out for as it relates to housing discrimination and how to protect those clients who may belong to a protected class. We will take a close look at subsidized housing utility allowances and how these allowances are calculated – sometimes incorrectly – and what you can do to correct them. We will learn about bringing a case in federal court and review recent cases handled by South Carolina Legal Service attorneys. We will cover one of the more common housing issues with a step-by-step review of the State eviction process.
The 2014 Housing Law Training will round out the substantive law with some updates on the move by the courts towards mediation and will end with an important refresher on the ever-evolving ethics landscape and how technology can impact your ethical obligations.
**The registration fee for this CLE is only $45.00 and, in return, we ask our participants to help someone who could not afford their own legal representation by taking a pro-bono case.
